Posting Overview :
The Supervisor of IT Security Services provides security leadership and operational support for all Information Technology infrastructure, applications, and services. Under the direction of the Manager of IT, the Supervisor leads the development, execution, and continuous improvement of the Board’s information security program, aligned with Board priorities and the Ministry of Education K–12 Cyber Protection Framework.
The role is responsible for safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Board data and systems, whether hosted on‑premises or in cloud environments. The Supervisor oversees security operations, risk management, vulnerability and patch management, access management, incident response, application security, privacy compliance, and governance. In addition, the Supervisor leads IT security investigations, manages security projects, and supervises the Coordinator of IT Security Services.
The Supervisor plays a key leadership role in cyber incident response, including the Board’s Cyber Incident Response Team, and serves as the Board’s primary technical authority on cybersecurity matters.
Key Responsibilities:
Security Leadership and Strategy
• Provide technical and strategic leadership to maintain and enhance the Board’s cybersecurity posture.
• Develop and execute a comprehensive information security strategy aligned with Board priorities and recognized frameworks (e.g., Ministry of Education K–12 Cyber Protection Framework, CIS, NIST).
• Mentor and guide IT security staff and provide security leadership across the IT department.
Risk, Vulnerability, and Patch Management
• Identify, assess, prioritize, and mitigate security risks and vulnerabilities across infrastructure, applications, and services.
• Oversee vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, remediation tracking, and patch management activities.
• Collaborate with other IT supervisors, product owners, vendors, and provincial partners on risk and vulnerability management.
Security Operations and Incident Response
• Manage secure access to systems, services, applications, and data using Role‑Based Access Control, multi-factor authentication, and conditional access.
• Oversee security operations technologies including firewalls, SASE, SIEM, SOAR, and endpoint protection platforms.
• Lead technical investigations and response activities for cybersecurity and privacy incidents.
Application Security and Privacy Compliance
• Review and vet all applications used within the Board for security and privacy compliance.
• Advise Procurement on security and privacy requirements; participate in RFP and vendor evaluation processes.
• Coordinate external privacy and security assessments as required.
Training, Governance, Policies and Procedures
• Develop, maintain, and enforce security policies, standards, and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with legislative requirements, Board policies, and industry best practices.
• Deliver security awareness training for end users and technical staff.
• Produce monthly cybersecurity newsletters and executive summaries.
Investigations and Project Management
• Lead technical aspects of IT security investigations involving staff and students in collaboration with internal and external agencies.
• Manage IT security projects from planning through implementation and operational handover.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline; equivalent experience may be considered;
• Minimum six (6) years of progressive responsibility IT experience, with a strong emphasis on enterprise security;
• Professional security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CRISC, CIPP, or PMP are preferred;
• Strong knowledge of modern security architectures and technologies including SASE, SD‑WAN, Next Generation Firewalls, SIEM, SOAR, EDR/XDR, and identity and access management platforms is required.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and prioritization skills;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non‑technical audiences;
• Proven ability to lead projects, collaborate across departments, and work effectively with external partners;
• High degree of professionalism, discretion, and integrity when handling sensitive and confidential information.
This position is located at the Chatham Regional Education Centre.
Non-union, 12-month, 35 hours/week
Compensation:
Level 6 - $117,911/annum - $131,012/annum
