Posting Overview :
Reporting to the System Coordinator of Alternative and Continuing Education, the Attendance Officer will assist school administrators with implementing the expectations for school attendance as outlined in section 21 of the Education Act.
The Attendance Officer will:
• promote positive student attendance as a component of student achievement and wellbeing;
• act on re-engagement, proactive, and prolonged absence student attendance referrals from the schools;
• make family home visits, as required;
• support schools in understanding the student attendance procedures in the Enrolment Register Instructions;
• work collaboratively with school administrators, parents, and students participating in student re-engagement planning meetings;
• work as part of the student re-engagement team;
• other duties as assigned by the System Coordinator of Alternative and Continuing Education.
This position requires regular travel throughout Sarnia-Lambton and Chatham-Kent.
Qualifications/Experience :
• minimum three year college diploma; Social Work emphasis or Child Youth Worker;
• related education & experience with social behavioural intervention;
• knowledge of the student attendance expectations and procedures in the Enrollment Register Instructions;
• knowledge of community organizations that support youth and families in need.
• experience with supporting youth and families who experience social difficulties;
• experience in a social services or community agency setting;
• experience working with diverse communities is an asset;
• experience working with Indigenous and Mennonite communities;
• good working knowledge of Microsoft Office;
• excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• excellent interpersonal and organizational skills;
• access to reliable transportation as daily travel throughout the district will be required.
Temporary, CUPE 10 month, 40 hours/week
Level 6 - $33.52 - $35.47/hour
